12/31 Donation from TAMC Lab to Benefit Local Educational Institutions

Northern Maine Community College, the University of Maine at Presque Isle and Maine School Administrative District 42 in Mars Hill each recently received materials from the lab at TAMC to be used in science courses at both campuses and at Central Aroostook High School.

12/21 Girl Scouts Gift Original Piece of Literature to Aroostook Pediatrics

The girls of troop 1213, based in Presque Isle, got together to write a book that teaches kids how to save water. The book, titled “Let’s Be Water Saving Heroes”, was written by kids, for kids, and allowed the young scouts to earn their “Wonders of Water Journey” badges. Each scout wrote and decorated one page, with each page having a helpful, water-saving tip.

12/19 Employees at TAMC Come Together to Continue One Man’s Tradition of Giving

Mike Wiltse, a longtime employee at The Aroostook Medical Center (TAMC), had a special tradition. Every year, during the Holiday season, Wiltse donated a bicycle to the Caribou Fire and Ambulance Department for their annual toy drive. When Wiltse tragically passed away in November, his friends and co-workers at the hospital wanted to continue his bicycle tradition in order to pay their respects.

Financial guides at The Aroostook Medical Center (TAMC) have moved from their location at North Street onto the A.R. Gould Memorial Hospital campus. The move is expected to allow financial guides to better assist patients in obtaining financial assistance and providing options that are best for the patient.

12/13 TAMC Doctor Returns from Helping in Superstorm Sandy Aftermath

Dr. David Horne, MD, a dermatologist at The Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle, had never before participated in a relief effort with Doctors Without Borders – that was until Superstorm Sandy hit.

Not only was it a first for Dr. Horne, but the mission was the first-ever on U.S. soil for the organization best-known for providing humanitarian medical assistance in impoverished and devastated countries around the globe. Although it is unknown whether Doctors Without Borders will be mobilized domestically again, one thing is for certain, Dr. Horne will serve again.
